Residency Training in General Surgery

OPERATIVE EXPERIENCE

Based on the past year's surgical statistics, each resident can reasonably expect to be actively involved in approximately 250 operative cases per year, supervised at all times by a member of the full-time or voluntary faculty. Residents keep an up-to-date record of their own operative experience on the ACGME website. Cases are then tabulated and kept as part of their permanent record. The table below summarizes the average operative experience during 2009–10 for our residents at each postgraduate year (PGY) level.
