Residency Training in General Surgery

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Qualified U.S. medical school graduates will be accepted for interview through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) upon completion of their medical school training, beginning September 1.

Applicants receiving an interview are not guaranteed a ranking through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Successful completion of Parts 1 and 2 of the United States Medical Licensure Exam (USMLE) and the Clinical Skills exam on first attempt is required by February 1 for NRMP ranking.

Appointments to the first year (PGY-1) of surgical training are made through the NRMP. Applicants for the second year of training and beyond must have completed the required prerequisite year(s) of surgical training.

Our USMLE cutoff score is >230.

Deadline for receipt of all completed applications (PGY-1 and all other years) — for consideration for interview — is November 6.

Interviews are scheduled after review of the completed application. Please call 631-444-1791 with any questions concerning your application to Stony Brook. Correspondence/email concerning the application process should be sent to:
