SURGICAL SELECTIVES: PLASTIC SURGERY

Objectives

The main focus of this introductory course in plastic surgery is to familiarize the student with basic concepts of wound management, wound healing and clinical principles of reconstructive surgery. Through participation in the operating room and interaction with patients in the office setting, students will gain exposure to a wide variety of plastic and reconstructive surgical issues. By the end of the course, each student should be able to discuss basic concepts in wound healing and management as well as gain a basic understanding of the various applications of reconstructive surgery.

Grading

Students will be evaluated on their participation and patient. interaction in the office setting, attendance, and clinical performance both in and out of the operting room.

Course Material

Essentials of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (for students) will be given to each student. Additional suggested reading will be provided by the preceptor.
