The Gastroenterology Core Curriculum
recommends a number of tools to assess the
competence of trainees including direct observation,
an in-service examination and procedural competency examinations.
As a step in this direction prior to the institution of a national
in-service examination, an in-service examination to assess gastrointestinal
knowledge base of the first and second year fellows
will be given in April of each year. Assessment and feedback
on the areas of strengths and weaknesses will be given after scoring of
the examination. The exam will consists of approximately 150 questions
to be answered over a 3 hour period.
