ATTENTION STUDENTS

   AN ELECTIVE COURSE IS AVAILABLE FOR HSC STUDENTS!!!

HSC 500: HEALTH, SCIENCES AND SOCIETY                      

The HSC 500 course will run from February 1, 2006 to April 2, 2006, and includes two full-day retreats. Classes are scheduled on Wednesday evenings from 5:15- 8:15 p.m. in the Health Sciences Center, Level 3, Lecture Hall 5

 

     

Ø      Field Trips- Interdisciplinary groups may visit sites relevant to topics and projects such as Law court, deposition, and/or other legal hearing, Legislative session, Department of Health deliberation, Nursing home, hospice, community based residency programs

  •     

Ø      A series of topic classes- 3 hours each,

     Wednesday evenings-

§         Communication (opening retreat)

§         Health Economics

§         Scope of Practice

§         Ethics

§         Legal Issues

§         Health Policy

§         Public Health

§         Medical Informatics- Telehealth

Ø      Opening All Day Retreat- Sunday, February 5, 2006 - Setauket Neighborhood House (Snow Date: Feb 12). Includes:

§   Communication

§   Small group interactions and exercises throughout the day


 

Ø      Closing All Day Retreat-  Sunday, April 2, 2006 – Setauket Neighborhood House

  • Group Presentations
  • Final Evaluation
  • Ø      Group Projects- Students will participate in an interdisciplinary team that will explore

           one the following: Hospice/Palliative Care

    §         Media/Technology and Health Care

    §         Complementary and Alternative Medicine

    §         Health Promotion/Disease Prevention

    §         International Health

    §         Public Health/Bioterrorism
