WHI - Sight Exam

Principal Investigator Dorothy Lane, MD, MPH
Co-Principal Investigator Iris Granek, MD, MS

The Women’s Health Initiative Sight Exam (WHISE) study is a clinical trial testing the efficacy of HRT for reduction of macular degeneration.   This is also an ancillary study of women at least 65 years of age who are participating in the hormone replacement therapy (HRT) clinical trial of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI).  The primary objective is to evaluate the efficacy of HRT in preventing the incidence of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) as measured by a systemic grading of stereoscopic retinal fundus photographs.  The secondary objective is to evaluate the efficacy of HRT in slowing the progression of AMD.
