The SB University/AID-HEAD Environmental Health program in Iraq is an ongoing effort to improve the health of the Iraqi people and educate Iraqi specialists on environmental and health science. As the program continues the latest activities will be posted here.
   
  Sep '04 - April '05: Centers to Conduct Research and Analysis
 
The three centers will be conducting environmental and biological research using analytical equipment received (remote sensing equipment and Geological Information System Technology) through the program. This will provide them with a good survey of environmental exposure, and allow the researchers to evaluate the current danger to the Iraqi people posed by airborne contaminants and to develop methods of prevention in the future.
   
 

Nov '04 - May '05: Training of Environmental Health Specialists: Each EHERC is selecting doctors from different backgrounds in environmental and public health to enroll in an intensive training course designed according to the standards of SB University. The candidates will have the opportunity to communicate with the international and Iraqi lecturers. Each candidate will receive a certificate upon completing the course successfully.

  Dec '04 - July '05: Preparations for International Conference on the Environment in Iraq
 

The five Environmental Health Education and Resource Centers are currently making arrangements for the international conference on the environment which will be held in Amman, Jordan. This will provide an opportunity for Iraqi researchers and scientists to exchange knowledge and ideas with international scientists.
