Services

 

The LIOEHC provides comprehensive occupational health services to promote a healthy workplace in Long Island. Our services include:

Comprehensive occupational and industrial hygiene assessments meeting OSHA standards, medical evaluations, treatments and prevention for health problems related to:
      
  • Hazardous Exposures (e.g. asbestos, chromium, hazardous waste)
  •       
  • Infectious Disease (e.g. Lyme, TB)
  •       
  • Lead Exposure
  •       
  • Mold
  •       
  • Noise Exposure
  •       
  • Repetitive Back or Strain Injuries
  •       
  • Solvent Exposure
  •       
  • Airborne Contaminants

  •     Preventive medicine evaluations, including immunizations and travel immunizations. 

        Design and conduct of surveillance programs for hazardous waste, chromium, asbestos, noise
        and lead exposure. 

        OSHA and EPA mandated examinations for asbestos, chromium, noise exposure and
        hazardous waste. We are part of an OSHA Alliance which enables us to work cooperatively
        with OSHA for the advantage of both employers and workers. 

        Department of Transportation examinations. 

        Workers' Compensation claims assessments. 

        Wellness exams in the workplace, including cardiovascular disease prevention,
        cholesterol reduction, smoking cessation and hypertension evaluation. 

        Medical and industrial hygiene testimony at Workers' Compensation hearings. 

        Occupational disease treatment referrals. 

        OSHA compliant respirator certification medical examinations. 

         Industrial hygienist services, including: 
          
  • Site visits
  •       
  • Airborne contaminant sampling and employee monitoring
  •       
  • Noise surveys and employee exposure monitoring
  •       
  • Recommendations for control of hazards
  •       
  • Respirator selection and fit testing
  •       
  • Hazard communication

  • OSHA and PESH mandated safety training and educational programs

  • Medical Services

    Our staff is unique in their ability to identify work related conditions and in their ability to implement preventive strategies. We conduct detailed and targeted medical assessments for occupational and environmental exposures. Our affiliation with Stony Brook Medical Center enables us to access the latest diagnostic tests and treatments. We are also available to assist in case management when multiple medical specialists are involved. LIOEHC provides social support services and referrals for its patients. We assist in the preparation of Workers' Compensation claims. When necessary, LIOEHC staff will testify at Workers' Compensation hearings. 


    Educational and Consultation Services

    LIOEHC reviews existing occupational health programs, and assists with the design, implementation and evaluation of OSHA, EPA, and the state-mandated medical monitoring programs. We work directly with employers, unions and individuals to assist with establishment of health and safety committees, the interpretation MSDS sheets, conducting workplace hazard identification surveys, the design of interventions for identified workplace hazards, and the conduct of OSHA and PESH mandated training and education programs. 


    LIOEHC also conducts educational programs targeted to the needs of special groups, such as health care workers, construction workers, carpenters etc. Examples of programs we have provided include: 

          
  • Investigations of indoor air quality in schools with recommendations for changes in the     ventilation system.
  •       
  • Early detection of Lyme disease among workers exposed to ticks.
  •       
  • Workstation assessment and adjustment to prevent cumulative trauma disorders.
  •       
  • Skin cancer screening among construction workers.
  •       
  • Asbestos surveillance among electricians.
  •       
  • Hazardous waste worker surveillance and monitoring.
