By car:
From the West: take the Long Island Expressway
to exit 62 (Nicolls Road, Route 97), North. In 8-9 miles (1 mile north
of Route 347) turn right onto East Loop Road.
From New England: a ferry is recommended to avoid going through New York City. Ferries are available from New London CT to Orient Point (the eastern end of the
north fork of Long Island), or from Bridgeport CT to Port Jefferson. From Port Jefferson, take Route 25A west for 4 miles; then turn south on Nicolls Road. In 1 mile turn left on East Loop Road, opposite the main Stony Brook campus entrance.
Park in either of the two garages (HSC map).
By Train:
Take the Port Jefferson line of the Long Island Railroad from Pennsylvania Station in New York City, changing at either Jamaica or Huntington. The Stony Brook station is on the North side of the university campus (campus map). Taxis and a campus bus are available.
By Plane:
MacArthur Airport in Islip is 15 miles south of Stony Brook, and offers frequent service from major hubs. New York's Kennedy and La Guardia airports are about 50 miles west of Stony Brook, and accessible by limousine. Since Newark is on the other side of New York City, flying into there is not recommended.
